Ein paar Fotoeindrücke...

Posted by Christoph

Hey Freunde & Familie,
Hey Friends & Family,

Some pictures from my first days - for those of you who want to see what Switzerland is like and have proof that it's beautiful :)

God bless!

"If you take my parking spot, take my handicap as well!" Sign that you have at every other parking spot here - I think it's creative!

Kitschiger Moment am Weg :) Cheesy moments on the way :)

Murten/Morat, beliebtes Urlaubsziel ca. 20 km von Fribourg

Ça joue bien! Die ersten Tage

Posted by Christoph

Liebe Freunde,

- hab mich also ins Auto geschwungen und bin aufs Geratewohl Richtung Zentrum gefahren.

Christoph

Dear friend,

I'm writing yet another post to let you be  part of my experience in the first few days.
Pictures of everything up there in the German part - it should be quite easy to know what they are :)

I really really like my building, nevertheless, this weekend it was about time to get out and get into the city. So I got behind the wheel and just drove on, next stop downtown Fribourg. I quickly had to realize that parking is not that easy here, but as you drive around you still get to see a lot. I finally arrived in a dungeon, sorry, park garage that looks a lot like a dungeon though. Very tight, old stone. Gives you the feeling that they used to park their horses there, in the Middle Ages :)

So, after that I started my little city tour by walking past cathedral St. Nicholas and walked through the market they have there in the pedestrian area every wednesday and saturday. You can buy everything the heart could want there! Bread, fresh vegetables, cheese, meat, jam, spices and oriental food. I wanted to stop at each vendor and try everything actually!
I continued my way to the center and went through the shopping streets. I like Rue de Lausanne very much! It has a lot of different restaurants, cafés and shops.

One of my favourites there was the Morrocan restaurant. I was walking by, starting to get a little hungry and thinking about entering a bakery (I love pastries!) when I saw it. And I fell in love. My traveller heart said "Let's go in there!" and I followed. I love to get to know different cultures, and what better way to do that than through food, huh?
I had something nice to eat and thé marrocain, which seems to be some blend of peppermint infusion with a lot of sugar. The restaurant itself is really nicely furnitured and decorated - with all kinds of Arabian artwork.
Next time, I'll be coming back with a good book! :)

My french intensive course started yesterday. It was a pretty full day, getting a lot of information concerning life in Fribourg, university and getting to know the other exchange students. We actually have many different nationalities here: Ireland, Holland, Lithuania, Belgium, Germany, Armenia, Italy... I love diversity!
I was kinda scared of the interview they were doing to determine our level - but it went really well and I'm not in beginner's class! :) It's going really good and I'm surprised by my skills, in all humility.
I'm eager to learn as much as I can :)

Thank you for reading!

Christoph

Je suis là!! :)

Posted by Christoph

Hallo liebe Freunde :)

:) Danke nochmal an euch!

Gar keine Grenzkontrolle - ziemlich langweilig.

Christoph

Hey there friend,

Yesterday I arrived after a few hours of nice travel. About 30 min from Fribourg the sky cleared up and I was welcomed with the best wheather. Those who know me can fathom how much that gives me joy :)

I love our appartement! :)
I like our building and most of all my room. MY ROOM. So blessed. Pictures of it at the top - still kinda spartanic, but I'm working on it.
At the moment, it's just two of us, so everything is kinda quiet, relaxed, but that's good, this way I get the chance to get used to everything and shop and be busy.

I'm so thankful and feel blessed to be here. Feels so good!
I still have to process the thought that I won't be going home in a couple of days though - YEAH
That epic moment, in which I handed the border policeman my passport, knowing that I won't be passing this border anytime soon... didn't happen :D
Unfortunately no check - dull.

Funny fact: 5 min after arriving I realized what I should've or could've brought with me. I guess that's part of the experience of moving out/to another country for the first time.  I'll be heading to the second hand shop soon :)

LORD, you have assigned me my portion and my cup; you have made my lot secure.
The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; surely I have a delightful inheritance. Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices; my body also will rest secure.
          Psalm 16

Am I thankful for what's been given to me, or am I always chasing the wind for something more?

Quick update from a thankful and joyful

Christoph

Herzlich Willkommen - Welcome :) (English at the bottom)

Posted by Christoph

Hallo Freunde :)

Christoph

Hello Friend :)

So nice to see YOU!
It gives me great joy to welcome you on my first own blog!
It's German title gives it away: Christoph in Switzerland. I want to use this way to update you on my life in Switzerland.

For those who don't know: I'll be doing an exchange semester with University from the end of August 'til approximately February in Fribourg, Switzerland. Fribourg is at the borderline of the German and French part of Switzerland, the majority of the people speak French there.
I am looking forward to 6 exciting months in which I want to learn how to speak French, write my thesis, become independent, responsible, cook, laugh and most of all, live life to the fullest!

My last days in Austria are pretty full and pretty fast: Spending time with the family, meeting friends, making the last preparations, packing, getting a little nervous, but most of all: bursting with excitement!!!! :)

I can't tell how much I've waited for this time, this chance to grow personally, beyond what I used to be and used to know. I am especially looking forward to seeing how my relationship with God is going to change and thrive, due to this different setting.
One of many wishes of mine is, that my prayer life will become more intense and personal. A sentence that's been stuck in my head for months now: It's just you and me God.

I will try and do my best to take you with me on this journey - thank you for taking time for me :)
For many, this blog will be the only platform of communication between us and I'm deeply sorry for that! If I could, I would keep in touch with everyone.
The truth is, it's impossible and also I believe that if you're going abroad, that is where your life should happen and not in front of the computer desk. Thank God for Internet anyway and in the blink of an eye I'll be back with you, I promise.

So thanks once again for taking part and praying (if you are that kind of person :) )
I hope my stories and thoughts will inspire your life!

Be blessed & see you soon!
Christoph
